What People are Saying About This Project...

“Carvings for a Cause is a great example of what a wonderful Community Buffalo is!”    Tim Russert, Host of NBC’s, Meet the Press

"Carvings for a Cause is an incredible project that will touch everyone in such a positive way after such a devastating storm that destroyed so many of our trees and will even help Re-Tree Western New York. I am honored to have a carving made of me and look forward to the unveiling!"
Jim Kelly, Pro Football Hall of Famer, and Former Quarterback, Buffalo Bills

"Of course you have my blessing for this project if it comes to fruition. The photo you might use to work with is one by Marion Ettlinger which has appeared on the covers of a number of my books and which is somewhat "iconic". The entire project sounds so exciting, and definitely worthwhile. Good luck!" Joyce Carol Oates, Award Winning Author

"Buffalo needs projects like "Carvings for a Cause" to help us all turn
our attention to the positive opportunities in all situations. We are
honored to sponsor FLO who had a vision of beauty for our beloved city.
This project needs and deserves the enthusiastic support of individuals
and of our local and county governments."
Jeannine and Dan Mullan, sponsors of Frederick Law Olmsted

"Hi, I saw the carvings at the Marina and was touched by the efforts to transform what was left of our beautiful trees into works of art. They are amazing - I was compelled to hug the tree trunk that stood in its humility after being cut down. I'm sure mother earth groaned the night the trees were damaged. Thank you for all your work." Peace, Sister Renee

"Just sent in a guess regarding the “Who is This?” carving at Erie Basin Marina and neglected to tell you how wonderful these carvings are.  I love looking at them and admiring them.  I can’t wait to see all of them when completed.  What a wonderful idea!" Sincerely, Diane M. Knapp

"The art work was great. It is amazing to see such work and to be able to take advantage of mother nature's actions." Vivian Chrisman, Renton, WA

"The carvings I have seen over the web site are just beautiful. What a beautifulway to bring life to something that was destroyed by a freak snow storm. Thank you for giving back to Buffalo what was lost and is now returned." Jim

"I just got to see the statures for the first time tonight. I've been out of town for 6 weeks. I went to the marina for the purpose to see them. They are wonderful, beautiful and a remarkable idea. I was very saddened by our Oct. storm's devastating loss. God bless you and many others for the idea and pursuit of this blessing for our city." Sister Patricia

"Your carvings are simply spectacular! Thank you for sharing such beautiful works of art. Have a wonderful day!" Dawn M. LaMendola

My husband and I took my mom to the waterfront last Sunday, to enjoy the wonderful weather (sunny and July hot! with clear blue sky!) and we were pleasantly surprised to see the wood carvings of the trees from the October storm. Thank you! Susan Dosch

I adore this project! Linda Gale Gellman

I just visited the Erie Basin Marina today, Saturday, Sept. 29th and was pleasantly surprised to see the marvelous carved statues from all the old damaged trees from the October storm last year.
They are wonderful carvings of special people who have everything to do with our wonderful city, Buffalo, NY!!!!
My guess for "Who is This" is: JAY LENO Judi Petz

The carvings are amazing...saw them at Erie Basin Marina. It's wonderful to see such a constructive project come out of what could have a sad end for many formerly majestic trees. Jo Ann Blatner

My husband and I just came back from the Erie Basin Marina after the announcement regarding the mystery carving. As we watched the artist at work, we were amazed by his skill and also his dedication to this project.
This whole area was so devastated by the damage caused by last years storm. It was very special to see these magnificent works of art that will last for a very long time. They will be a constant reminder never to take for granted the beauty of our trees. Our congratulations to the people responsible for this endeavor and all the people and projects like Re-tree that are trying to bring the beauty of nature back to our area. Last year we remember the day the trees cried, this year we celebrate the sincere effort of so many people to make the trees smile again. Patti

Re: Mother Catherine Carving
I just want you to know how much we love her. When I come home from traveling, she is there to greet me. Somehow, I really feel the presence of Catherine more than ever. Thank you for this most glorious tribute to a very saintly and holy woman. Please let Rick Pratt know too.
Blessing to you all, Sister Mary Ann
